The annual fall migration of Northern Saw-Whet Owls – eastern North America’s smallest owl species – is underway once again. Each year the Wild Bird Research Group personnel safely capture and band hundreds of Saw-Whet Owls as they travel south for the winter, piecing together the complicated migration ecology of this fascinating owl species.

WBRG and its partners will be offering in-person programs at the owl banding station. During these programs, you will learn about Northern Saw-Whet Owl ecology, the methods used to study them, and with some luck, get the chance to see live owls up close as they are banded and measured for research.

Our owl research partner Mercer County Park Commission, has released its program dates for the Fall 2024 season.  This year we have twice as many dates available as last year! To register for an event, click on whichever images’ dates you are available to visit the sign-up page.
